Since 2009 the Friends of The Seattle Public Library have been honored to receive annual grants from the Renee B. Fisher Foundation to provide classroom books for teachers in high-need (Title I) Seattle public schools. Through these grants, teachers receive $100 in vouchers to purchase books for their students at the many Friends' Book Sales. So far, over 300 teachers from 31 schools have given nearly 20,000 books new homes in their Seattle classrooms, ranging from K-12.
For 2012, the Friends have received an additional $12,000 grant from the Renee B. Fisher Foundation to distribute hundreds more books to Seattle school classrooms.
